What does it look like to design a space that feels as fresh and forward-thinking as the profession it represents?
That question guided our team at Barbour Spangle Design as we envisioned the Workman School of Dental Medicine at High Point University, a project that redefines what a dental education facility can be. It’s bold. It’s vibrant. And it’s completely centered around the people who will teach, learn, and lead within its walls.
Every design decision was made with intentionality. The color palette —a crisp blend of spearmint, blue, and lilac, punctuated by subtle tangerine and yellow accents —brings to mind energy, freshness, and possibility. It was inspired by something as simple and familiar as mouthwash, but elevated into an immersive, modern experience.
Faculty feedback shaped the use of colorblocking to define spaces, translucent materials to add depth, and pixelated wall graphics to reinforce innovation. Lighting elements nod to the tech environments students have come to expect, all while remaining grounded in the timeless Georgian architecture that ties the campus together.
The result is a facility that feels alive, buzzing with potential and clarity. It’s more than a building. It’s a recruiting tool, a retention asset, and a physical representation of HPU’s commitment to staying ahead in healthcare education.
